Transformers

Top  Previous  Next

Design Master allows you to create transformers independently from a panel.  Once a transformer is created, it may serve a single panel or multiple panels.

To create a transformer, go to

DM ElectricalarrowOne Line DevicesarrowTransformers

A Transformer dialog box will appear. To actually create a new transformer, press the New button at the bottom of the dialog box. Another Transformer dialog box will appear after Design Master asks you to enter the callout for the new transformer you are creating.

Listed below are all the different fields and inputs found in the dialog box above.  These fields all help to define the transformer in some way and are divided into three main categories.  The first portion focuses on the definition of the transformer itself, followed by the fault analysis information, and then the specifications of the transformer feeder wires.

General Transformer Definition

Field

Sets

KVA

The KVA rating for the transformer.

K-Rated

Toggles whether or not the transformer is K-rated or not.

Primary Volts

Voltage going into the transformer.

Secondary Volts

Voltage coming out of the transformer.

Number of Lugs

Sets the number of lugs available to tap out of on the transformer.

Select Block Based upon KVA

When sizing the transformer block that will be inserted on the plan view, this toggles whether or not to size that block based on the KVA rating.

Plan View Block

The size of the transformer block on the drawing.

Custom Dimension

Input for defining customized transformer block sizes.

Layer System

Indicates what layering system the transformer block will be drawn on.

Location

Where you can select the transformer schedule graphic to associate with the transformer.

Note 1

Creates a note that may be inserted with the transformer on the one line diagram.

Note 2

Creates a note that may be inserted with the transformer on the one line diagram.

Fault Analysis

Field

Sets

Transformer Primary Length (ft)

Length of the conductor from the device feeding the transformer. It can be automatically calculated by Design Master, or input manually.

Fault @ Transformer Primary (amps)

The fault current on the primary side of the transformer.

Transformer Impedance %

Percentage of impedance through the transformer.

Fault @ Transformer Secondary

The fault current on the secondary side of the transformer.

Secondary Breaker AIC Rating

The AIC Rating for the breaker on the secondary side of the transformer.  Must be specified by the user, and may be set at custom levels in the field below.

Feeder Specification

Field

Sets

Fed From

Displays where the transformer is fed from.  This is set in the One Line Device Connections box.

Description in Upstream Device

How this panel appears in the schedule of the device feeding it.  Defaults to Transformer Callout, but may be customized

Primary OCP

Size of upstream breaker or fuse in the device feeding the transformer.

Conductor Amps

Select automatic sizing for the conductors, or use this field to select a specific conductor size.

Neutral

Choose to size the neutral wire at 100% or 200% of the phase conductors, select a specific conductor, or have no neutral at all.

Ground

Choose to automatically size the ground per the NEC as a service or equipment ground, or select a specific size.

Conduit Size

Choose to size the conduit automatically, or select a specific conduit size.

IG Conductor

Toggle on or off an Isolated Ground conductor.

Size

This field displays the conduit and feeder sizes for the transformer, based on the settings above.

The New, Copy, Save, Delete, Rename, and Find buttons work as they do for panels.
