Start New Electrical Project

This section describes how to start a new project.

When you start a new project, a database file will be created in the same folder as the current drawing. The file will be named dm_elec.dm. If you entered a project name when starting the project, that will be included at the end of the file name (e.g. the project name "Seattle" will create a file named "dm_elecSeattle.dm"). This is the database file where all of the information about your project is stored.

To create the database file, go to

DM Electrical->Start New Electrical Project

Start New Electrical Project Dialog Box

Project Name (Optional): The project name that is added to the end of the file name. This name is only used on the file name. It is not used anywhere else in the project.

It is not necessary to fill in a project name. If you leave this field blank, the project database name will be "dm_elec.dm".

Project Directory: The project directory indicates the folder in which Design Master Electrical will place the database. The folder that is displayed and used is the folder that the current drawing is saved in.

Standards Database: Select the standards database to copy projects options and settings from. See the Master and Standards Databases section for more information about the standards database and which settings are stored in it.

Receptacle Schedule Group: Check this box to automatically import a complete receptacle group from the master database to the new project. See the Master Database Groups section for more information about receptacle groups.

Equipment Groups: Select the equipment groups to automatically import from the master database to the new project. The equipment group and settings will be imported to the new project. No equipment connections will be imported.

Multiple groups to be imported can be selected by holding down the CTRL key while making the selections.

See the Equipment section for more information on creating equipment connections once the project is started.

See the Equipment Standards Groups section for more information on equipment groups.
