Rooms Labels in Circuit Descriptions

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

It is possible to list the rooms that devices connected to a circuit are in on the circuit description in the panel schedule. To change whether this is displayed, go to “DM Electrical->Customization->Options->Edit Project/Standards List”. Find the “Include room names in circuit description” in the “Miscellaneous” section. There are three options:

  • Yes, include “Room” in circuit description: Rooms names will be included in the circuit description with “Room” listed before each room.
Example: Lighting, Room 101, Room 103
  • Yes, do not include “Room” in circuit descriptions: Room names will be included in the circuit description.
    Example: Lighting, 101, 103
  • No: No room names will be included in circuit descriptions when this is selected.
    Example: Lighting

  1. Bryant says:

Thanks that is something I didn’t know about. One additional option I wish you had is to just put the room name in. Putting “Lighting, Bedroom #1” takes up too much room on a lot of panels. If I have a fixture A1 & A2 it might say something like “Lighting A1, A2 Room 101” which is too much info. Most folks only want Bedroom #1 or Reception. In all of your options above, you force the panel to show lighting, but that isn’t always wanted.

  2. For each type of device, you can set the circuit description to be blank. For light fixtures, go to the schedule, and deleted the “Lighting” label in the “Load Description.”

The room label ends up with an extra comma current. I’ve updated the code so that the next release, DM Electrical 7.3.0, will have that change in it (the current release is DM Electrical 7.3 Release Candidate 1).
