Convert Formulas to Values

This command converts cell formulas to values so that your Excel files can be set to people with Design Master.

The menu commands insert formulas into cells that calculate the desired value. The formulas only work if the Design Master Electrical Excel Add-in is installed and the selected electrical database can be found. When you send your Excel file to people outside of your office, it is likely that they will not have the add-in installed. If you send the file without conversion, all of the formulas will set the cell values to "#NAME?". This Excel error message is saying the desired function does not appear to exist.

To avoid this error, you can run the Convert Formulas to Values command. You will be prompted to enter a name for the copy of the workbook that it will create. Make sure that the name you enter is different from the name of the original Excel workbook, otherwise you will accidentally overwrite your file and will not be able to create updated workbooks as the formulas will be removed. In the new workbook with a new name, all of the formulas will be converted to the values that they are returning. You can then send the new workbook to someone else, and they should have no problem viewing the contents. At the same time, you will retain the original workbook with the formulas, so that updating the workbook will not require extra work on your part.
