Light Fixture Project and Master Schedule |

There are two ways to define light fixtures for project use within a company: the Light Fixture Project Schedule and the Light Fixture Master Schedule. While the steps involved in using them are similar, the two schedules are used in different circumstances. Light Fixture Project Schedule The Light Fixture Project Schedule is useful when creating a schedule of light fixtures that might not be necessary for every project a firm does. The light fixtures created in the Light Fixture Project Schedule are available for insertion only in the current project. If similar light fixtures are later needed in another project, the whole light fixture project schedule may be imported into another project folder or to the master schedule. Light Fixture Master Schedule Defining light fixtures in the Light Fixture Master Schedule is useful when many of a firm’s projects will involve the same standard light fixtures. Fixtures created in this schedule are stored in the master database and are available for import and insertion in all projects in addition to the light fixtures created in that project’s Light Fixture Project Schedule. To define a light fixture, go to DM Electrical or DM Electrical The following dialog box will appear.
Press New to begin creating a light fixture. The New dialog box will appear.
Enter the callout for the light fixture and press OK. You will be returned to the Light Fixture Project or Master Schedule dialog box where you may now being entering the desired definitions for the newly created light fixture. See below for explanations of the fields in this dialog box. To select the graphic that will represent this light fixture on the drawing, press Select Block in the Light Fixture Project/Master Schedule dialog box. The Select LF Block dialog box will appear with a list of potential desired graphics (see below).
Select the desired graphic and press OK. (While Design Master comes with a set of standard graphics for light fixtures, the user can customize blocks to meet company standards. For more information on how to create and edit the block list, see Customization.)
If you plan on performing photometric calculations on the project, you may attach an IES file to the light fixture by doing the following: Press Select IES File. The Select IES File dialog box will appear.
Browse for the proper file; once the proper file has been selected, press Open. Design Master will attach the IES values to this light fixture. This information is used for lighting calculations only, and will not fill in light fixture data. Press Detach IES File if you wish to detach the IES file from the light fixture. You can determine whether an IES file is attached to a light fixture by looking to see if a file is described after the IES File: field under the Detach IES File button on the Light Fixture Project/Master Schedule. If you want to change the IES file for a light fixture, use the Detach IES File command and then use the Select IES File command to attach the new IES file. Finally, the following data fields may be used to further define the light fixture. The table below explains what each field in the Light Fixture Project or Master Schedule dialog box represents and defines.
Set the values as you wish to appropriately define the current light fixture. Press Save to store any changes. The light fixture has been saved in the schedule and may now be inserted on a drawing. To insert this light fixture on a drawing, press Exit to return to the drawing and use the Insert Light Fixture command. Or, you may wish to remain in the Light Fixture Project or Master Schedule dialog box and press New or Copy to continue creating light fixtures. *These values may be set for load 1, 2, and/or 3 if the fixture is a multiple load light fixture. To create a multiple load light fixture, use either the Light Fixture Project Schedule or Light Fixture Master Schedule as you would for a single load light fixture. However, check the Load 2 or Load 3 box. These boxes are located in the top-right corner of the Light Fixture Project or Master Schedule dialog box. (see below) When you insert a light fixture with two loads on a drawing, Design Master will allow you to circuit each load to a separate circuit, and draw either two individual homeruns or a combined homerun. See Circuiting Multiple-Circuit Devices for more information.
