Start New Electrical Project

Top  Previous  Next

Design Master is structured so that all drawings and the database reside in a single folder. The database contains information about each drawing. In order to assure that the database and drawings can be appropriately coordinated by Design Master, it is important to properly set up a new project.

Begin by saving the drawing into a project folder. If the drawing is not saved in a project folder, the Design Master database will not be able to connect to it.

Next you should set the dimscale to the appropriate level. Common settings include 96 for an 1/8 inch scale drawing and 48 for a 1/4 inch scale drawing. Most text and blocks within Design Master are sized according to the dimscale setting. To change the dimscale, type DIMSCALE at the command line, and then enter the appropriate value.

Finally, you will want to set the alignment point for the drawings. See Insert Alignment Point for more information. This step may be done at any point in the design process; it does not have to be done before you start a new electrical project.

Once a drawing has been properly saved and the dimscale is set, you may start a new electrical project.

The following table describes the various options available from the Start New Electrical Project dialog box.

Field

Sets

Project Name (Optional)

You may indicate a project name if you wish. This will label the database and is not a replacement for the project folder name.

Project Directory

This indicates the folder in which Design Master will place the database and will expect to find all the relevant project drawings.

Standards Database

The default standards database will be used unless you change this using the pull-down menu.

Light Fixture Schedule Group

If you wish to select a Light Fixture Schedule Group to be imported automatically into the new project, check the box to the left and indicate via the pull-down menu on the right which schedule group you wish imported.

Receptacle Schedule Group

If you wish to select a Receptacle Schedule Group to be imported automatically into the new project, check the box to the left and indicate via the pull-down menu on the right which schedule group you wish imported.

Low Voltage Devices Groups

Design Master will import a low voltage devices group when starting a new project. Under the Low Voltage Devices Groups field, you may select multiple groups to be imported, or you may select only one.

When you have finished setting the fields in the Start New Electrical Project dialog box, you may press OK to start a new project.
