Developed by Bricsys, BricsCAD offers a versatile platform that caters to various industries, including the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction sectors with its BricsCAD BIM software.

We will assess its suitability for electrical engineering design by using the Electrical Engineering BIM Scorecard.

For more information on how the 10-point scorecard works, see this video that discusses it in more detail. You can also download a scorecard graphic to help personally score BIM software.

Scoring BricsCAD BIM

Using the BIM Scorecard, we can measure how well BricsCAD BIM performs on electrical engineering tasks. The scorecard consists of ten “yes” or “no” questions designed to evaluate the software’s suitability for electrical engineering needs.

1. Does engineering exist?

According to the BricsCAD website, the answer to this first question is “no”. While the software does emphasize 3D modeling and BIM support, the focus seems to be primarily on architectural functions.

What This Means

With a “no” on the first question, BricsCAD BIM earns a score of zero. That said, BricsCAD does still present itself as an AutoCAD alternative.

BriscsCAD was built to take advantage of AutoCAD customization to add features the main software didn’t contain, and allow it to compete directly in the CAD market.

Join Our Free Webinar

May 19, 2026 • 1:00 ET / 10:00 PT

“Create Single-Line Diagrams in Revit Without Late Nights or Change Orders”

Register Now

Using the Electrical BIM Scorecard, this week we take a look at BricsCAD BIM, and review it to see if it’s a good fit for electrical engineers as a replacement for AutoCAD.

[40
