Backing Up & Transferring Customization Files

What Is Stored in the Customization Folder

The customization folder is where FireBIM stores all of your riser diagram graphic family and project files.

Where the Folder Is Located

To see where your customization folder is located, use the User Options command. The customization folder location is provided in the Customization Folder field. The default location is C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Design Master Software\FireBIM where <User Name> is the name you use to log in to your computer.

Backing Up the Customization Folder

To back up your FireBIM installation, the most important files to protect are the ones in your customization folder. The files in the main Design Master Software folder are part of the standard installation package and can be recreated by reinstalling the software. Including the FireBIM customization in your normal backup routine is recommended.

Backing Up Additional Customization

In addition to the files in the customization folder, FireBIM also provides model and annotation tag families you can use, which you may want to back up as well. For more information about those families and where they are located, visit What Is Included in the Installer.

Copying the Customization Folder to a New Location

If you made changes to your customization and need to copy those changes to a new location, it is typically for one of two reasons:

  • You have gotten a new computer. In this case, you need to install FireBIM on the new computer so the customization folder exists, then copy the files from the local folder on your original computer to the local folder on your new computer. When you paste the files, overwrite the ones created by the installer.

  • You are converting from a single-user customization to a shared customization on the company network. In this case, you need to copy the files from your local folder to the network folder. Make sure everyone using FireBIM at the company changes their Customization Folder location in the User Options command to the new location.
