Starting a New Project

The previous tutorials show how you can use FireBIM in a project that is in progress. This section briefly describes the workflow for designing new projects.

Configure Families & Customization for Future Projects

Before starting a new project, use the  Family Edit command to configure your fire alarm families as described in the Configuring Family Graphics, Modifying a Device Family, and Modifying a Panel Family sections. Doing this once at the family level will save you from having to do it for every instance in the project later, and ensures your families will have the appropriate FireBIM shared parameters for displaying information in annotation tags.

Set Default Customization & Use Customization in Future Projects

There are two ways you can use your customization in future projects:

  • Use the commands in the Customization panel of the ribbons in a project template file. Any projects created using the template will use your customization.

  • Use the Export and Import commands:

    1. Use the commands in the Customization panel of the ribbons in a project to establish your customization settings.
    2. Run the FireBIM Design→  Customization→ Export command. The Save As dialog box will open.
    3. Enter a filename and save the .fbimc file.
    4. On your next project, run the FireBIM Design→  Customization→ Import command and open the .fbimc file to load your customization.

Design & Draft Your Fire Alarm System

After designing your initial fire alarm layout in the Revit model, use the commands on the FireBIM Riser ribbon to draft and make changes to your riser diagram.
