ElectroBIM & Load Calculations

I'm trying to model or calculate a particular load in Revit. Does ElectroBIM have anything to help with that?

ElectroBIM does not have any control over how loads are populated or calculated in Revit.

The extent to which ElectroBIM uses the load values provided in Revit is explained below. Helpful resources for common questions related to loads are also provided.

What ElectroBIM Does With Loads

ElectroBIM does use the load values provided by Revit for some features, but does not affect how those values are entered or calculated. Those uses include:

  • Displaying load values in dialog boxes
  • Mirroring load values in shared parameters on single-line diagram graphics
  • Calculating breaker and wire sizes, voltage drop, and motor contributions for fault calculations

Modifying Load Calculations

For general information about modifying how your loads are calculated in Revit, visit the Load Calculations article in the Autodesk Revit help portal.

If you have questions about modeling a specific load or load type, try the Autodesk Revit MEP Forum.

Fixed Loads in Revit

The way Revit is currently designed, electrical loads must be set on devices that exist in the model. It is not possible to assign loads directly to a panel, switchboard, or other piece of electrical equipment without tying those loads to circuited devices. ElectroBIM does not currently have any features that allow for fixed loads.

A common workaround for fixed loads is to model and circuit a "dummy" device for the loads, such as a junction box, and insert that device far away from the actual Revit model.
