Inserting Spares on the Single-Line Diagram
What's the process to add spares to the equipment on my single-line diagram?
Spares can be inserted as individual circuits using the Circuit Insert command. There are two methods for using this command to insert spares, each with benefits and drawbacks that are detailed below.
Insert Circuit Linked to the Spare in the Model
After running the Circuit Insert command, select the equipment from which you want to draft the spare. You can then select the spare from the circuit list in the Insert Circuit dialog box and draft it the same way as any other feeder on the single-line diagram.
Benefits
Feeders inserted this way will be linked to the spares on the equipment, with shared parameters that will update if any changes are made.
Drawbacks
Because these spares are linked to the Revit model, you cannot make lasting manual changes to shared parameters on the feeder segments; visit Making Changes in the tutorial for more information. Most notably, ElectroBIM does not assign feeder IDs to spares, so it will store an empty value for the DMET_Feeder_FeederID shared parameter that cannot be populated.
Insert the Spare as a Dummy Circuit
After running the Circuit Insert command, press the ESC key. You can then select graphics for the feeder and draft it on the single-line diagram.
Benefits
Feeders inserted this way do not correspond to anything in the Revit model, so shared parameters can be modified manually to your desired values, such as setting the DMET_Feeder_FeederID shared parameter to display "SPARE" on the feeder ID graphic.
Drawbacks
Because these spares are not linked to the Revit model, they will not respond to changes made to the spares on the equipment. Any shared parameter values will need to be maintained manually.
