Setting Minimum Breaker Sizes for Branch Circuits & Feeders

How do I set the smallest breaker ElectroBIM uses for branch circuits and feeders in my project?

For circuits with a small load or no load, ElectroBIM will use the smallest standard breaker when sizing automatically. To set the standard breaker sizes for your project, use the Wire Ampacities command.

In the grid at the bottom of the dialog box, there are three columns for setting standard breaker sizes:

  • ☐ Standard Branch Circuit: Used when automatically sizing standard branch circuits.
  • ☐ Equipment Branch Circuit: Used when automatically sizing circuits for devices that are defined as equipment connections.
  • ☐ Standard Feeder: Used when automatically sizing distribution equipment feeders.

Example

Often, a project requires 20A breakers at minimum, but ElectroBIM is using 15A breakers. To fix this, run the Wire Ampacities command and uncheck the boxes for the 15 breakers. The next time the project is calculated, the breakers will update.
