Installing FireBIM

This section describes how to install FireBIM.

System Requirements

Visit the System Requirements page to make sure you can use the software before installing.

If you are a current user installing an update to the software, follow the Updating FireBIM instructions.

  1. Download and run the latest FireBIM installer.
    warning

    Close Revit before you run the installer.

  2. After the installer has finished, open a project or family in Revit. You should see a FireBIM Design ribbon and a FireBIM Riser ribbon.

What Is Included in the Installer

When you run the FireBIM installer, in addition to the system files needed to run FireBIM, the following files and libraries will be installed in the locations listed:

  •  Detail item families for the riser diagram, stored in C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Design Master Software\FireBIM where <User Name> is the name you use to log in to your computer;
  •  Annotation tags for plan views and the riser diagram, stored in C:\ProgramData\Design Master Software\FireBIM\Content\Tags;
  •  FireBIM Shared Parameters.txt—used to add FireBIM shared parameters to your families, projects, and schedules—stored in C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Design Master Software\FireBIM and C:\ProgramData\Design Master Software\FireBIM\Content;
  •  A core library of fire alarm panel and device model families, stored in C:\ProgramData\Design Master Software\FireBIM\Content\Model Families\Generic.

Backups of the files listed above will also be installed and stored in C:\Program Files\Design Master Software\FireBIM. Additionally, the folder C:\ProgramData\Design Master Software\FireBIM\Content will be added to your list of Revit places, visible on the left side of Revit's Open and Load dialog boxes, to provide quick access to the files in that folder.

The first time you run the FireBIM installer, it will also download and install a cache of riser diagram graphic families for different Revit versions. This cache installation is optional; if you opt out, the cache will be generated as you use FireBIM in your projects. Visit the Updating Riser Diagram Graphic Family Definitions article in the knowledge base for more information.

Evaluation Mode

The first time you run a command, you will be asked to provide your email address to activate FireBIM in evaluation mode. In evaluation mode, banners will be displayed in some dialog boxes and (FireBIM Trial) will be appended to some shared parameter outputs, such as panel names on the riser diagram and calculated voltage drop values.

info

Evaluation mode is not time-limited and is fully featured.

Activating Your License

To fully activate FireBIM and remove watermarks, you must provide a valid license ID and password. You can enter your license information by pressing the button on an evaluation mode banner or running the Update License command.

tip

If you do not know your license ID and password, visit the License Key Request page to have them emailed to you.
