Branch Circuit Voltage Drop

This tutorial teaches you how to display the voltage drop on branch circuits.

Open drawing E-2.1,2. There should be receptacles inserted on this drawing that are connected to a circuit.

Display Voltage Drop When Inserting a Homerun

  1. Run the Draw Homerun and Loops command.
Ribbon: DM Electrical→Circuiting and Homeruns→  Draw Homerun and Loops
Pulldown Menu: DM Electrical→Circuit and Homeruns→Draw Homerun and Loops

  2. Select a device on the drawing that is circuited. Follow the prompts at the command line to insert the homerun and loops.

  3. Once the command is finished, press F2 to expand the command line.

The voltage drop will be displayed in the command line history.

Display Voltage Drop After Inserting a Homerun

  1. Run the Calculate Voltage Drop command.
Ribbon: DM Electrical→Circuiting and Homeruns→  Calculate Voltage Drop
Pulldown Menu: DM Electrical→Circuit and Homeruns→Calculate Voltage Drop

  2. Select a device on the circuit that you just drew the homerun and loops for. A dialog box displaying the voltage drop will open.

  3. Press the button to close the dialog box.

Change the Voltage Drop on a Circuit

  1. Run the Circuiting command. The Circuiting dialog box will open.
Ribbon: DM Electrical→Circuiting and Homeruns→  Circuiting
Pulldown Menu: DM Electrical→Circuit and Homeruns→Circuiting

  2. Press the button.

  3. Select a device on the circuit that you just drew the homerun and loops for. The Circuiting dialog box will open again with the circuited selected.

  4. Set Conductor Amps ▾ to 40 --- #8.

  5. Press the button.

  6. Run the Calculate Voltage Drop command.
Ribbon: DM Electrical→Circuiting and Homeruns→  Calculate Voltage Drop
Pulldown Menu: DM Electrical→Circuit and Homeruns→Calculate Voltage Drop

  7. Select a device on the circuit that you just drew the homerun and loops for. A dialog box displaying the voltage drop will open and display a different value from before.

  8. Press the button to close the dialog box.

Display Voltage Drop in Voltage Drop Schedule

  1. Open drawing E-4.2.

  2. Run the Insert Voltage Drop Schedule command. The Voltage Drop Current Schedule dialog box will open.
Ribbon: DM Electrical→Distribution Equipment→  Insert Voltage Drop Schedule
Pulldown Menu: DM Electrical→Distribution Equipment Schedules→Insert Voltage Drop Schedule

  3. Press the button to close the dialog box.

The voltage drop schedule will be updated in its current location on the drawing. If the voltage drop schedule is not on the drawing, follow the prompts at the command line to insert it.
