Every modern building runs on its low-voltage systems. Security, communications, nurse call, medical equipment: this is the infrastructure that makes a building safe, connected, and usable. Yet when it comes time to design it, low-voltage has always been treated like an afterthought in the model. You can place the devices, but Revit leaves the real work to you.

Devices, but Not Design

Revit will happily let you drop in data, security, and nurse call devices. What it won’t do is engineer the system for you. The power distribution gets the full BIM treatment: coordinated in Revit, calculated from a single source of truth, documented straight from the design. Low-voltage gets a separate drafting tool for the risers, a spreadsheet for the device schedule, and a set of calculations worked out by hand. It’s a lot of careful work to keep three disconnected records agreeing with each other, and one small change can quietly put them out of sync.
