Error When Copying Electrical Devices

Posted on February 2nd, 2010. Last updated on June 14th, 2023.

Problem: When you copy electrical devices, such as light fixtures or receptacles, the link between the copied device and associated text, such as the callout or notes, is broken.

Solution: This is a bug in AutoCAD that occurs during the COPY command when parts of the devices are on a layer that is frozen. Typically, it is the 3D layer that is frozen. The solution is to thaw all of the Design Master layers.

If you do not want the 3D blocks to appear on your drawing, you can turn them off using the Options command.

In the 3D Drafting section, set Insert 3D blocks on drawing to No.

To remove 3D blocks already inserted on a drawing, run the Coordinate Drawings and Database command after changing this setting.
