People Diversity in Load Calculations

Friday, August 20th, 2010

The load calculations in Design Master HVAC support people diversity in zones.

The number of people in a room is specified by the room type. It can be set to a specific number or based upon a certain number of square feet per person.

The default number of people in a zone is the sum of all of the people in the rooms included in the zone. If you have 10 offices with 1 person each, and a conference room with 10 people, the zone has a total of 20 people in it.

There are times when there are fewer people in the zone than in the rooms. In the above example, if the 10 people are in the conference room, they are not in their offices. Each room needs to be cooled for the 20 total people, but the system only needs to be cooled for 10 people.

You can set the people diversity using the Zone List command.

Ribbon: DM HVAC->Building Definition-> dm_hvac-zone Zone List

Pulldown Menu: DM HVAC->Building Definition->Zones->Zone List

Select the zone you want to configure. In the People Diversity section on the left side of the dialog box, check the box to enable this setting for the zone. You can then specify the number of people.

The total number of people in the zone will be calculated and compared to the number of people in the rooms. The people load and the portion of the ventilation load that is based upon the number of people will be adjusted to match the actual number of people in the zone.
