The layers of devices inserted using Design Master are controlled by the project settings using the Layers commands. The current layer settings in the CAD program are ignored.

All of the layer dialog boxes have the same layout. The only difference is in the layer keys that are available.
The top-left grid sets which layer system you are working in. The General system is for items that do not have a layer system associated with them, such as alignment points, room outlines, and schedules.
The default customization includes two systems, New and Existing. You can add as many additional systems as you need. One system that is commonly added is Demo.
The top-right grid is a mapping between what we call Layer Keys and the layers in the CAD program. There is a layer key for each item in Design Master. It is possible to have multiple layer keys use the same layer.
The bottom grid is the list of layers available when assigning layer keys. The settings in this grid match the settings available in the standard LAYER command.
To quickly make changes to large numbers of layers, use the Export Layer System and Import Layer System buttons.
After you make changes to the layers, you may need to update the drawings in your project that have Design Master items already inserted on them.
To update the layer definitions, use the Update Drawing Layers to Match Project List command.
Ribbon:Â DM: Customization->Project Customization->Â Â Update Drawing Layers to Match Project List
Pulldown Menu: DM->Customization-> Layers ->Update Drawing Layers to Match Project List
To update which layers items are inserted on, use the Coordinate Drawings and Database command.
The video below shows how to create a new layer system and assign a new layer to layer keys in that system.
