Defining Walls

This tutorial teaches you how to define walls.

You will define the exterior walls of the kitchen, lobby, and concession area.

Open drawing M-1.0.

Define an Exterior Wall​

  1. Run the Query Wall command.
    Ribbon: DM HVAC→Rooms and Walls→  Query Wall
    Pulldown Menu: DM HVAC→Building Definition→Walls→Query Wall

  2. Select the north-facing wall of the kitchen. The Specific Wall Information dialog box will open.

  3. Select 🔘 Heat Transfer and Solar Gain (Wall).

  4. In Wall, set Wall Type ▾ to BRK - GWB - R19.

  5. Press the button to close the dialog box.

The wall is now thicker to indicate heat transfer.

Match Wall Properties​

  1. Run the Match Wall Properties command.
    Ribbon: DM HVAC→Rooms and Walls→  Match Wall Properties
    Pulldown Menu: DM HVAC→Building Definition→Walls→Match Wall Properties

  2. Select the north-facing wall of the kitchen.

  3. Select the west-facing wall of the kitchen. The properties of the north-facing wall will be copied to this wall.

  1. Continue selecting the exterior walls of the lobby and concession area.

Modify Walls​

  1. Run the Query Wall command.
    Ribbon: DM HVAC→Rooms and Walls→  Query Wall
    Pulldown Menu: DM HVAC→Building Definition→Walls→Query Wall

  2. Select the exterior wall of the concession area. The Specific Wall Information dialog box will open.

  1. In Glass, select 🔘 Complex and make the following changes:

    1. Set Quantity to 1.
    2. Set Width to 7.
    3. Set Height to 4.
  2. Press the button to close the dialog box.

  3. Run the Query Wall command.
    Ribbon: DM HVAC→Rooms and Walls→  Query Wall
    Pulldown Menu: DM HVAC→Building Definition→Walls→Query Wall

  4. Select the southwest-facing exterior wall of the lobby. The Specific Wall Information dialog box will open.

  1. In Door, set Door Type ▾ to Wood, No Ins.

  2. Select 🔘 Complex and make the following changes:

    1. Set Quantity to 1.
    2. Set Width to 6.
    3. Set Height to 7.
  3. Press the button to close the dialog box.
